Color blindness or color vision deficiency (CVD) is a fairly common condition in which people have a total inability to recognize colors.
For most people, color blindness is inherited. That means it’s passed from your biological parents. But you can also acquire CVD later in life due to medical conditions or other reasons.
You might have a form of color blindness if you have trouble telling the difference between certain colors or shades or seeing the brightness of certain colors.
Our optometrists can diagnose color vision deficiency using several different tests. The most common tests are the Ishihara color test and Famsworth test.
Currently there’s no medical treatment or cure for people with inherited color blindness. But wearing a colored filter over eyeglasses may enhance your perception of contrast between the confused colors.
